UKMTO Reports Explosion Close to Vessel Off Yemen
A tanker reported sighting multiple explosions close to the vessel 60 nautical miles south of Al Mukha, Yemen, on Sunday, according to a British government agency monitoring maritime security in the region.
The vessel’s company security officer reported seeing the explosions in close proximity to the tanker, UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said in a social media post today.
The incident was reported at 16:50 UTC on Sunday.
The crew was reported safe, with no environmental impact reported.
Authorities are investigating the incident. UKMTO advised vessels operating in the area to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity.
Several ships have come under attack around the Red Sea region since the Yemen’s Houthi movement imposed the maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia in July.
