French shipping firm CMA CGM has added another methanol-fuelled container ship to its fleet, following the delivery of another vessel last month.

The latest addition, CMA CGM Gold, has a capacity of 13,000 TEU and can run on conventional fuels as well as methanol, the firm said in a LinkedIn post yesterday.

The vessel is the latest in CMA CGM’s series of 12 sister ships.

It joins CMA CGM Iron, the group’s first dual-fuel methanol vessel, along with CMA CGM Osmium, CMA CGM Silver and CMA CGM Copper.

The container shipping sector has accounted for a large share of methanol-fuelled vessel orders.

The growing number of methanol-capable ships entering service is expected to support demand for marine methanol.

CMA CGM has also recently taken delivery of an LNG-capable container ship, adding another vessel able to operate on an alternative marine fuel.
