Norway-based Hagland Shipping has added a wind-assisted combi freighter to its fleet under a time charter agreement.

The vessel is being chartered from Germany-based Reederei Gerdes and its commercial arm over-C, Hagland said in its latest press release.

The 3,850 DWT vessel is equipped with Econowind's VentoFoils for wind-assisted propulsion, as well as a battery-hybrid propulsion system capable of periods of fully electric sailing.

It is fitted with shore power connectivity and an optimised hull design to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

The vessel will be deployed in the European short-sea dry bulk market.

“The deployment of this vessel is another step forward in building a more competitive and environmentally friendly fleet,” the company said.
