VesselsValue.com has released a new distance calculator that tracks the time, nautical miles, and speed required to journey between ports, the service announced in an emailed release.

The tool is available to all existing subscribers and includes over 2500 ports in its database.

Users are be able to input a range of information to calculate the amount of days travel will take, or the speed required to arrive at a destination at a certain time.

The tool also allows for additional legs and includes a "smart routing" option to avoid specific routes that may be more prone to pirate attacks and options for deep-water routing.

Last year INTERTANKO Managing Director Katharina Stanzel said that reducing vessel speed to arrive at port exactly when a berth was known to be available, rather than having to wait for congestion to clear, saved its members money through reduced fuel usage.
