Shipping firm UECC has signed a commercial agreement with Oversea, a joint venture between ABB and Wallenius that provides vessel performance management services.
The deal follows a successful trial of Oversea’s vessel performance optimisation service onboard the car carrier Auto Advance, the firm said in an emailed statement on Wednesday.
Oversea combines vessel data analysis with maritime expertise to improve vessel performance and fuel efficiency.
During the trial, the companies identified opportunities to improve hull and propeller maintenance timing. They also found potential fuel savings through trim optimisation.
The work delivered measurable fuel savings ahead of the vessel’s scheduled dry docking, with further improvements expected as the service is rolled out under the commercial agreement.
“UECC believes that greater use of digitalization is the right way forward to reduce costs and emissions, and we believe that Oversea is the right partner to support us in this development,” Thomas Thue, CFO at UECC, said.
