The Clean Shipping Alliance (CSA) and Marine Fuels Alliance (MFA) have signed a two-year MoU to help shipowners and bunker suppliers meet emissions regulations and prepare for alternative fuels.

The agreement brings CSA’s expertise in exhaust gas cleaning systems and marine environmental technology together with MFA’s knowledge of the marine fuels supply chain, they said in an emailed update on Wednesday.

The two groups will share technical data and research on MARPOL compliance, alternative fuels and emissions reduction technologies.

They will also coordinate on regulatory issues at the IMO, including meetings of its Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC).

The groups will support industry events on fleet modernisation, retrofits and fuel quality, and develop practical guidance for technology providers, fuel suppliers and ship operators.

“Shipping's compliance and availability challenges won't be solved by one technology or one fuel,” Andreas Chrysostomou, Executive Director of the Clean Shipping Alliance, said.

“The CSA brings a wealth of technical knowledge and first-hand industry experience, particularly in relation to emissions, environmental regulation and the technologies being adopted by shipowners and operators,” Anthony Mollet, Executive Officer of the Marine Fuels Alliance, said.
