Stefan Claussen, Technical and Marketing Director at LUKOIL Marine Lubricants Ltd. (Lukoil) today said the company is "ready" for tightening sulfur regs, no matter which compliance solution shipowners choose.

The comments came alongside the company's announcement that its new marine lubricant, NAVIGO MCL Extra, has been granted approval for use with MAN Diesel & Turbo SE (MAN) and Winterthur Gas & Diesel Ltd. (WinGD) engines.

Lukoil says the new approval of NAVIGO MCL Extra complements the company's product portfolio for low and ultra-low sulfur applications, which also includes NAVIGO MCL Ultra with a BN of 20 - suitable for distillate and ultra-low sulfur fuel oil of less than 0.1 percent sulfur content.

"In order to offer the best possible lubricant solutions in the years leading up to 2020 and beyond, LUKOIL Marine Lubricants launched NAVIGO MCL Extra, a 40 BN marine cylinder oil for distillate, ultra-low sulfur fuel oil (<0.1%S) and low sulfur heavy fuel oil applications," explained Lukoil.

"Since NAVIGO MCL Extra also covers low sulfur HFO applications, it will replace NAVIGO 40 MCL and will from now on be delivered globally instead of NAVIGO 40 MCL."

In October, Ship & Bunker reported that MAN and Wärtsilä had approved Lukoil's Navigo MCL Ultra cylinder oil for use in the companies' marine engines.
