Sweden-based Soya Group has launched FLOW Maritime, a new company focused on helping shipowners navigate the shift to alternative marine fuels.

FLOW Maritime will offer alternative fuel portfolio management, certified chain-of-custody services, FuelEU pooling and environmental attributes, bringing together areas that are often managed separately, it said in an emailed update yesterday.

The company aims to help shipowners assess the wider commercial benefits of switching to alternative fuels, including emissions reductions and the value of regulatory compliance.

“Shipping companies are under growing pressure to reduce emissions, but the business case for doing so is often assessed too narrowly,” Daniel Gent, managing director of FLOW Maritime, said.

“The price of the fuel is only one part of the equation.”

“When compliance value, emissions reductions and environmental attributes are considered together, the economics can look very different.”

FLOW Maritime said certification, traceability and documented chain-of-custody processes would be central to its approach, helping customers verify environmental claims.

The company is part of Soya Group, which brings experience in shipping and maritime business development.
