Navig8 Orders Four Eco-Design Chemical Tankers
Navig8 Chemical Tankers Inc. Wednesday announced that it has signed contracts for the purchase of four 49,000 DWT eco-design chemical tankers, as well as the option to purchase six more of the vessels at a later date.
The vessels will be built at STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (STX) in Korea, says Navig8 Chemical Tankers.
"We are very pleased to add these modern eco-design vessels to our current newbuilding fleet," said Nicolas Busch, Navig8 Chemical Tankers' president and CEO.
"Our best-in-class chemical tanker fleet of 36 large, fuel-efficient vessels is designed to benefit from the continuing shift to long-haul chemical trades driven by significant investment in U.S. and Middle East chemical export projects."
Built to the specifications of previous orders, Navig8 Chemical Tankers says the IMO2 and Interline-coated chemical tankers will be able to transport methanol and other specialty cargoes.
The newbuild vessels are said to be set for delivery by the middle of 2017, after which it will be deployed in the Chronos8 pool and managed by the Navig8 Group.
In October last year Navig8 Chemical Tankers also added to its eco-tanker fleet.
