Construction Begins on Finnlines Methanol-Fuelled Ship
Shipping company Finnlines has started construction of the first methanol-fuelled vessel in its new Hansa Superstar series at CMI Weihai Shipyard in China.
The steel-cutting ceremony for the first of three ro-pax vessels took place on Friday, it said in a press release issued on Friday.
The ship is scheduled to enter service in 2028 on the Finland-Germany route.
Finnlines said the vessel will use methanol dual-fuel engines and include technologies such as air lubrication, waste heat recovery, shore power, and a 2 MWh battery system to reduce emissions.
The vessel will be about 244 m long, carry up to 1,000 passengers and provide 5,100 lane m of cargo capacity.
The €500 million programme includes three vessels, with construction of the second and third ships due to begin in 2027.
