Norwegian shipping company Wallenius Wilhelmsen has signed an agreement with China's Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu) for four new LNG dual-fuel pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs).
The vessels will each have a capacity of 9,900 car equivalent units (CEU), the company announced on Wednesday.
Deliveries of the four firm vessels are scheduled to begin in mid-2030. The agreement includes options for four additional vessels in 2031 and another four in 2032.
The total capital expenditure is expected to reach around $1.5 billion if all options are exercised.
The order expands Wallenius Wilhelmsen's fleet renewal programme, launched in 2023. The programme now covers 26 vessels, including options.
“Expanding our newbuilding program with deliveries from 2030 reflects our confidence in the long-term fundamentals of the market,” Xavier Leroi, Chief Operating Officer, Shipping Services at Wallenius Wilhelmsen, said.
“We are investing now to ensure we can continue to grow with our customers while further developing our leading position in deep-sea RoRo.”
