Norwegian ammonia bunkering firm Azane Fuel Solutions has signed an ammonia supply agreement with Yara Norge, securing product for its marine fuel business.
Under the deal Yara will supply ammonia to Azane through its established production and logistics network, and Azane will sell it on to customers in the marine fuel market, the Sandefjord-based company said in an emailed press release on Friday.
Those customers include Equinor, with which Azane recently signed a framework agreement covering ammonia deliveries and truck-to-ship bunkering.
The company did not give details on volumes, pricing, or duration for the agreement.
"Securing access to ammonia from a leading global producer is a key milestone for Azane," said chief executive Steinar Kostøl.
"As interest in ammonia as a marine fuel continues to grow, strong partnerships across the value chain are essential to ensuring a safe, reliable and commercially viable fuel supply."
Yara, for its part, described its role as supporting Azane's efforts to pilot ammonia supply solutions.
"As a leading global producer and supplier of ammonia, Yara is well positioned to provide reliable supply to customers across a range of industries, including emerging applications such as maritime fuel," said Gunner Sørensen, senior sales manager at Yara Industrial Solutions.
The two companies are already closely linked: Yara's venture capital arm and gas carrier owner Navigator Holdings each took a 14.5% stake in Azane in October 2023.
