Auramarine to Supply Methanol Fuel Systems for Grimaldi Newbuilds
Finnish technology company Auramarine has won a contract to supply methanol fuel supply systems for six Ro-Pax vessels ordered by Italy’s Grimaldi Group.
The vessels are being built at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Weihai and will operate in the Mediterranean under the Grimaldi Lines and Minoan Lines brands, Auramarine said in a statement on its website on Tuesday.
Auramarine said it will deliver complete methanol fuel supply systems for all six ships, including control and emergency shutdown automation systems.
The vessels will also receive conventional fuel supply units, enabling the dual-fuel engines to run on conventional marine fuels.
The ships are scheduled for delivery between 2028 and 2030 and are expected to cut CO2 emissions per cargo unit by more than 50% compared with existing vessels operating on the same routes.
“These new vessels highlight how alternative fuels like methanol, supported by advanced fuel supply systems and other green technologies, can deliver substantial emissions reductions in the Mediterranean,” John Bergman, CEO of Auramarine, said.
