Peter Hall Joins Digital Bunkering Group Vortex Development as European Business Development Liaison
Well known industry veteran Capt. Peter W Hall has joined U.S. and Canada-based Vortex Development Group (Vortex) as its European Business Development Liaison, principal Jeff Mildner has told Ship & Bunker.
Hall was most recently CEO of the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA), and officially retired from the position at the end of March 2017.
"Peter continues in the maritime industry on several fronts and brings a wealth of experience to his involvement with Vortex. We are delighted to have a someone of Peter's experience and overall calibre join the group," Mildner told Ship & Bunker.
Vortex formally launched its Digital Bunker framework last year, and has an emerging suite of tools aimed at digitising delivery paperwork in the bunkering industry.
"Peter's track record in identifying new and future trends within the bunker industry is well known. As we build a global digital working group comprised of key industry stakeholders, his involvement with Vortex speaks volumes as to just how important Digital Bunker services are set to become in the coming years," Mildner added.
Commenting on the appointment, Hall said: "The role of technology within the industry has been growing at an ever increasing rate, so there is no question that the future of the bunker industry is a digital one. The Digital Bunker framework provides a mechanism to consolidate and disseminate information in a consistent manner, in turn providing opportunities to deliver greater safety, efficiency, and transparency for ports, shipowners, and bunker suppliers. So the only real question is how quickly this change will take place.
"With upcoming challenges such as the collection of data to support EU and IMO ambitions for their monitoring, reporting, and verifying (MRV) programmes, I think a future of digital bunkering is a lot closer than some may realise."
