World Fuel Services and West Coast Clean Fuels Establish US Methanol Bunkering Capability
Marine fuel supplier World Fuel Services (WFS) and West Coast Clean Fuels have established a methanol bunkering capability for vessel owners and operators across US ports.
The companies recently completed a methanol bunker fuel delivery in South Florida, WFS said in an email statement on Thursday.
The offering includes procedures approved by the United States Coast Guard, along with trained personnel and dedicated equipment.
West Coast Clean Fuels said it is currently the only operator in the US with approved truck-to-ship methanol bunkering procedures.
The capability follows several years of development, including risk assessments, operational and emergency response planning, and coordination with regulators. Elements of this work have also informed recent regulatory guidance.
"World Fuel's established global marine fuel platform allows us to deliver and transact methanol bunkering solutions efficiently and reliably to customers," Brad Hurwitz, senior vice president, supply and trading at World Fuel, said.
The companies said they are ready to support methanol bunkering demand nationwide as the shipping industry explores lower-emission fuel options.
