Class society American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has landed the contract to class the liquified natural gas (LNG) bunker barge which will be chartered to oil major Shell.

The ship, which is owned by LNG shipping company Quality Liquefied Natural Gas Transport and will operate in the US, is being built by VT Halter Marine with equipment supplied by Finnish marine engineer Wartsila.

"ABS is committed to working with all project stakeholders to support safety both during construction and operations," the head of ABS Christopher Wiernicki was quoted as saying by maritime news provider Lloyd's List.
