A terminal in south-central Alaska will begin providing bunkers on January 1, state news site Alaska Dispatch reports.

ASRC Energy Services Alaska (AES Alaska) has expanded and upgraded the Big Tenders Marine Terminal at Cook Inlet and will now offer refuelling, additional storage space, and equipment repair services.

Joe Lo Sciuto, president of AES Response Operations (ARO), said the development is a response to increasing oil and gas production activity in the area.

"We're very excited about the future for Cook Inlet and what we see as a nice turnaround in the opportunities for producing energy out of it," he said.

AEO is also working with Foss Maritime (Foss) to build a $15 million landing craft to support the energy industry.

Foss said recently that it has formed a joint venture with ARO to seek opportunities in the marine services market.
