Nustar Energy Sues Glencore Over Contaminated Bunkers
U.S.-based Nustar Energy Services, Inc. has sued Switzerland-headquartered Glencore after claiming that the commodities trader sold contaminated bunkers, Tradewinds reports.
According to court documents, Nustar said that it bought IFO 380 from Glencore early in 2014, and received the fuel later the same year.
However, Nustar said it received contamination claims from all six vessels that it went on to sell the fuel to, with South Korea-based Daewoo Logistics having already pursued ligation against both Nustar and Glencore.
Included in Daewoo's lawsuit is Petro-Ocean Trading, who was an intermediary supplier.
According to Nustar, damages for just two of the ships, the 57,000 DWT bulker Agia Irini owned by Meadway Shipping & Trading and the 35,100 DWT Zhe Hai 505 owned by Zhehai Shipping, total to $1.32 million.
Glencore has reportedly provided no comment on the matter.
Earlier this year, Nustar reported in its full-year results that it saw falling revenues alongside better margins in 2014.
