New Marine Energy Analysis Tool Promises 10% Savings
U.S. energy advisory firm utiliVisor says it has launched a marine division focused on helping the industry reduce fuel consumption and increase vessel efficiency.
"With fuel now accounting for an increasingly higher percentage of a vessel's operating costs, ship owners and operators are looking for ways to improve efficiency," said Tim Angerame, a director at utiliVisor.
Angerame said the company's solution involves little capital investments and is open-source and interoperable with any ship system regardless of the equipment manufacturer.
The utiliVisor service includes an analysis of energy operating costs using real-time data, including energy-savings plans for each vessel, engineering solutions for efficiency and profitability, daily fuel usage and voyage reports, assistance with fuel purchase decisions based on history and forecast data, and reports to validate emission regulation compliance.
"In most instances, ship owners will be able to realize a significant reduction in fuel costs in a relatively short period of time," Angerame said.
"We are confident that owners will realize as much as 10 percent annual savings for most vessels, with a payback on capital investment in as little as a year."
UtiliVisor already provides data and analysis around energy consumption for energy plants and metering systems, and is now adding the marine division to its operations, according to its website.
