SIBCON 2026: Singapore Offers Early Adopter Grant for Electric Harbour Craft
Singapore will introduce an Early Adopter Scheme for Electric Harbour Craft in January 2027, offering grants of up to SGD 250,000 per vessel to cover part of the battery system cost.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) will provide SGD 250 for every kWh of installed battery capacity used for propulsion, as per an announcement made at SIBCON 2026 event in Singapore today.
The grant is capped at SGD 150,000 for small craft and SGD 250,000 for larger vessels.
Eligible vessels must obtain their harbour craft licence between 14 October 2026 and 31 December 2028.
The scheme will run for two years, with payments made in three instalments.
Singapore has more than 1,600 harbour craft, most of which are conventional fuel powered.
From 2030, all new harbour craft operating in the port waters must be fully electric, capable of using B100 biofuel or be compatible with net-zero fuels such as hydrogen.
MPA will also expand charging infrastructure to support the transition.
Four additional chargers will be installed at Loyang Offshore Supply Base, while more public chargers are planned at Jurong Port and West Coast Pier in 2027.
The authority is also studying battery-based and mobile charging solutions to support electric harbour craft operations as adoption increases.
