Hong Kong-based shipping company Wah Kwong Maritime Transport Holdings has marked the steel-cutting ceremony for its LNG carrier at Dalian Shipyard.

The 175,000 m3 vessel will become the third ship in the company’s dual-fuel LNG carrier fleet, the company said in a LinkedIn post on Wednesday.

As more LNG-capable ships enter service, demand for LNG and cleaner alternatives such as bio-LNG is projected to rise significantly.

Bio-LNG can be used as a drop-in fuel in dual-fuel LNG ships.

The global LNG-fuelled fleet is made up of 933 vessels, with an additional 672 expected to join the fleet by 2030, according to classification society DNV data.
