Indian Shipbuilder Wins Svitzer Order for Four Fuel-Efficient Tugs
Indian shipbuilder Swan Defence and Heavy Industries (SDHI) has secured an order from maritime service provider Svitzer to build four fuel-efficient tugs.
The TRAnsverse 3200 tugs will be built at SDHI’s Pipavav yard in Gujarat, with deliveries scheduled to begin in early 2028, the firm said in an announcement today.
The design, jointly developed by Svitzer and Robert Allan Ltd., is intended for harbour towage and escort operations.
The tugs will deliver 80 tonnes of bollard pull and are designed to be up to 15% more bunker fuel efficient than conventional tug designs.
The vessels will also be biofuel-ready, IMO Tier III-ready and FiFi1 firefighting-class ready.
Svitzer operates more than 500 vessels worldwide, and the order forms part of its long-term fleet renewal programme.
The order is valued at $26-78.8 million.
