Japan’s Tsuneishi Shipbuilding has delivered its first methanol-fuelled Kamsarmax bulk carrier built at its Chinese shipyard.
The vessel was delivered on October 28 by Tsuneishi Group (Zhoushan) Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. (TZS), it said in an announcement on Thursday.
The vessel is fitted with dual-fuel engine capable of running on methanol and conventional marine fuels.
Compared with heavy fuel oil, methanol can reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by up to 80%, sulfur oxides (SOx) by up to 99% and Co2 by up to 10%, according to Tsuneishi.
The delivery follows the completion of the world's first methanol-dual-fuel Kamsarmax at Tsuneishi's Philippine shipyard in January 2026.
TZS has also built four methanol-dual-fuel 5,900 TEU container ships.
The latest delivery marks further progress towards establishing a production system for alternative-fuel vessels at its Chinese facility.
