The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) will launch a new ship registration system in the first half of 2027, with AI used to support application processing.

The system will integrate the registration process from application submission to certificate issuance, it said in a press release issued on Friday.

The system will provide shipowners and ship agents greater visibility over applications.

“It will also incorporate AI capabilities to support the vetting and processing of applications,” MPA added.

“Processing time for standard applications will be reduced from up to three working days to just a few minutes, with certificates issued upon completion.”

MPA will invite industry stakeholders to take part in pilot trials in the coming months, allowing the system to be tested and refined ahead of its planned launch.

The new system is part of efforts to modernise the Singapore Registry of Ships (SRS), which marks its 60th anniversary this year.
