Wartsila to Invest €90 Million in Further Engine Capacity Expansion
Maritime technology group Wartsila will invest about €90 million to further expand engine production capacity at its Sustainable Technology Hub in Vaasa, Finland and across its associated global supply chain.
The latest investment will add a further 30% increase in technical production capacity, following a previously announced 35% expansion plan revealed in February, the firm said in an email update on Tuesday.
Combined, the projects will lift Wartsila’s planned technical production capacity by 65% compared with 2025 levels.
The company said the expansion will help meet rising demand from the marine and energy sectors, driven by decarbonisation requirements, fuel flexibility needs and growing electricity demand linked to data-centre growth.
The earlier 35% capacity expansion is expected to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2028, while the additional 30% increase is scheduled for the first quarter of 2029.
Wartsila’s Sustainable Technology Hub opened in 2022 and manufactures all engine types in the company’s portfolio.
