Wednesday September 23, 2015
Gazpromneft Shipping is aiming to begin liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operations in Russia's Baltic Basin by 2017, PortNews reports.
According to Vasily Tkachenko, a company representative, there are plans to start with one bunkering before potentially moving to add more.
The company added that there are a number of LNG terminals currently under construction in the Baltic Basin, while the number of gas powered ships in the world, along with demand for LNG as a bunker fuel, are both projected to increase.
Late last, year, sister company Gazpromneft Marine Bunker also announced a focus on LNG bunkering in response to stricter Emission Control Areas (ECA), with an aim to secure a foothold in this sector by 2025.
