The Port of Rotterdam (PoR) has announced the official start of operations at the Botlek Tank Terminal (BTT).

The Port said that the oil storage facility, a joint venture of HES Beheer NV and Noble Group Ltd (NOBL), has capacity to store 200,000 cubic meters (52.8 million gallons) of petroleum products and edible-oil.

With an investment of about €70 million ($92 million), construction of the first phase began at the end of April 2010.

The port plans to expand capacity to more than 700,000 cubic meters in a second phase.

BTT is reported to have 34 storage tanks and ample deepwater berths capable of handling and storing a varied range of liquid bulk products.

With a 420 meter jetty capable of accommodating two seagoing vesels with a draught of up to 115,000 DWT and two barges simultaneously, the terminal will be operating 24 hours a day.
