Mureloil's Hybrid Bunker Tanker Enters Service in Spain
Spanish shipowner Mureloil has put its hybrid bunker tanker Bahia Candela into service in Spain.
The 7,500 m3 vessel officially entered operation on June 4, the company said in a LinkedIn post on Thursday.
Bahia Candela is chartered to energy company Repsol and is designed to transport and supply both conventional marine fuels and methanol.
Mureloil said the vessel is its second hybrid ship and can carry out port manoeuvres in 100% electric mode using its battery system, allowing operations with no direct emissions and minimal noise.
After entering service, Bahia Candela completed its first commercial cargo operations at Bilbao and Mugardos.
The vessel later called at Algeciras before sailing to Barcelona, where it is expected to operate in the coming months.
The Bahía Candela is the first of two hybrid tankers to be chartered to Repsol.
