MyFerryLink: DFDS Confirms Eurotunnel Vessel Deal
DFDS Seaways' long-term bareboat charter agreement for two ferries formerly belonging to channel tunnel operator Groupe Eurotunnel SE will come into effect July 2, 2015, DFDS announced this week.
A tribunal ruled earlier this year that the MyFerryLink service from Calais to Dover would have to be sold because it gave Eurotunnel an effective monopoly over the cross-channel ferry market.
The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
A put option agreement expiring mid-2017 will also reportedly provide Eurotunnel with the right to require DFDS to purchase both the Rodin and Berlioz.
"Eurotunnel can exercise the put option on terms agreed between the parties, including a price reduction equal to any charter payments made before an exercise of the put option," DFDS said.
DFDS added that the deal did not affect the company's 2015 earnings outlook.
Last month, the company reported its highest-ever first quarter operating profit.
