White Smoke, a Swedish liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering innovator, is closing, and founder Johan Algell is taking a position with Scandinavian LNG supplier Skangass, Algell said in a statement on the White Smoke website.

White Smoke AB, a consulting group for the development of LNG as marine fuel, and White Smoke Shipping AB, which focused on the supply of LNG feedering and bunkering services, were in business for four years.

"During these years the development of LNG as marine fuel has moved from being an awkward regional buzz of Norwegian origin to become a global development increasingly difficult to review," Algell said in the statement.

"I started White Smoke with the opinion that LNG is the future fuel of shipping and even if the development have been much slower than expected four years ago my original opinion still stands stronger than ever."

Algell said he will work as a business development manager for marine LNG at Skangass, which has recently started deliveries to the marine sector.

Skangass's focus on LNG bunkering includes supplying shipments from its Norway plant to Rotterdam's Gate terminal.
