United Bunkers Acquires ARA Bunker Supplier Oilchart International
Physical supplier United Bunkers has expanded its presence in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) bunker market by acquiring Oilchart International's bunker activities.
The deal adds Oilchart International's biofuel blending expertise, storage facilities and tank capacity to the United Bunkers business, Oilchart said in an email statement on Monday.
Nine employees have also joined the company as part of the transaction.
Ship & Bunker reported in January that authorities in Belgium had ordered the sale of part or all of the assets of NV Oilchart International.
Oilchart International has a range of interests in the marine fuels space, including the physical supply of VLSFO, HSFO, MGO, and a range of biofuel bunker blends.
United Bunkers said the move strengthens its ability to supply both conventional marine fuels and biofuel blends as demand for lower-carbon bunker options continues to grow.
The expansion has led the company to double the size of its office space at Rijnkaai in Antwerp.
United Bunkers is part of the Somers family-owned maritime group, which operates a fleet of 42 inland barges in the region.
The group recently added a new LNG bunker barge to support alternative fuel supply in ARA ports.
The company said the combined business will be better positioned to serve customers as the market for biofuels and other alternative marine fuels develops.
