Saronic and Lloyd's Register Partner on Autonomous Vessel Standards
US-based Saronic has partnered with Lloyd’s Register (LR) to support the development of autonomous vessel operations in the UK, Europe and Australia.
The two firms will work together on rules, technical standards and regulatory guidance for autonomous vessels, LR said in an email statement on Monday.
Under the agreement, Saronic will also pursue classification activities for its autonomous surface vessels with LR to ensure they meet safety, security and performance standards.
LR said the partnership will help shape verification pathways and regulatory approaches for autonomous and uncrewed vessels as the sector moves towards wider commercial and defence use.
Saronic said the partnership builds on its existing work with the American Bureau of Shipping related to autonomous vessel certification and safety standards.
