Maersk Line says it has hired Stephen Richard Schueler, a former executive with Microsoft Corporation and Procter & Gamble, as its new chief commercial officer.

"We are tremendously excited to welcome Stephen to the Maersk Line team as Chief Commercial Officer," said Søren Skou, CEO of Maersk Line.

"Stephen has developed and led the global sales operations of two of the world's largest and most prestigious companies with great results."

Skou added that Schueler was chosen because of his experience, which the company hopes will help it reach its volume and profit targets.

"He is exactly what we are looking for to further strengthen the Maersk Line sales force."

Schuler, a 46-year-old American, served most recently as the head of global retail sales and marketing at Microsoft.

Before that, he spent more than 20 years at Procter & Gamble, working in sales and management in Europe, South America, and Asia, and eventually becoming the head of global retail sales.

Schuler, who will begin his role at Maersk Line on May 27, replaces Lucas Vos, who left the role of chief commercial officer May 1.

Maersk Line announced in February that Vos would leave the company, describing his work as being "an integral part of turning the company around."
