Aegean Bunkering Fleet to Install ECDIS
Aegean Marine Petroleum Network (Aegean Marine) subsidiary Aegean Bunkering Services Inc. (Aegean Bunkering) is set to install electronic charts systems aboard its fleet, Digital Ship reports.
The Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) system is said to be International Maritime Organization (IMO)-compliant for the replacement of paper charts.
Aegean Bunkering has chosen Japanese electronics firm Furuno to supply its FMD-3100 units across 15 vessels.
Aegean Bunkering bridge officers will receive a combination of computer-based and on board training for the new systems.
Implementation by Furuno Hellas is expected to be complete by July 2015.
Aegean Bunkering's fleet includes bunker barges as well as ocean-going bunker tankers.
Late last year, Aegean Marine announced expansion plans for the West, East, and Gulf Coasts of the U.S. as well as expanding in Germany as it sought to capitalise on November's collapse of rival OW Bunker.
In January, analysts were reported to have continued confidence in the group, whose fourth quarter results are due to be released on March 16.
