BW Epic Kosan has expanded its use of GIT Coatings' graphene-based hull coating technology after a trial on its LPG carrier fleet delivered around 6% fuel savings.

Five vessels have been coated so far, with a sixth currently in dry dock, GIT Coating said in a statement on its website on Friday.

The project combines GIT's biocide-free graphene coating with robotic hull cleaning and advisory support to help maintain hull performance.

According to the companies, a vessel monitored for more than a year remained free of hard fouling and maintained its performance through proactive cleaning.

Building on the results, BW Epic Kosan has also started adopting GIT's next-generation XGIT-FORCE coating, which is designed to improve antifouling performance and durability.
