TotalEnergies Launches Fuel-Saving Lubricant for Marine Engines
TotalEnergies Lubmarine division has launched a new marine lubricant that it says can help shipowners cut fuel use and operating costs.
Aurelia FE is a trunk piston engine oil for four-stroke medium-speed marine engines, the company said in an emailed statement on Monday.
Laboratory testing showed fuel savings of 1.5% compared with an equivalent reference lubricant over the IMO E3 cycle.
The testing method was independently approved by Bureau Veritas.
TotalEnergies said field tests have also shown the potential for higher savings in actual vessel operations.
The lubricant can be introduced without equipment modifications or vessel downtime, giving operators a way to target fuel savings without changing their existing engine setup.
Aurelia FE is backed by more than 100,000 hours of service experience and has received approval from a leading global marine engine OEM, according to TotalEnergies.
The company said the lower fuel consumption can also help reduce CO2 emissions.
