Yokogawa Electric has won orders from Kawasaki Heavy Industries to supply integrated automation systems for a 40,000 m3 liquefied hydrogen carrier and two hydrogen-fuelled vessels.

The carrier will be the world’s largest of its type, the firm said in a press release last week.

Yokogawa’s systems will monitor and control onboard equipment and include emergency shutdown functions for the safe handling of liquefied hydrogen at extremely low temperatures.

The company will also supply automation systems for marine hydrogen fuel systems, covering liquefied hydrogen tanks and fuel supply equipment.

The vessels are being built under a Green Innovation Fund project led by Japan’s NEDO to support the development of large-scale liquefied hydrogen.
