Belgium-Brazil Shipping Corridor Seeks to Advance E-Fuels Trade
A new consortium has been formed to develop a green shipping corridor between Brazil's Port of Açu and Belgium's Port of Antwerp-Bruges to advance the trade of e-fuels.
The group will assess the infrastructure, vessel requirements, and commercial models needed to transport e-fuels such as e-ammonia and e-methanol produced at Açu to Europe, the consortium facilitator, Global Maritime Forum, said in a statement on its website on Thursday.
The vessels serving the route would also be powered by the same zero- or near-zero-emission fuels.
The initiative builds on a pre-feasibility study published by the Global Maritime Forum and RMI in November 2025, which identified Açu as a potentially competitive e-fuel production hub due to Brazil's renewable energy resources, supportive green hydrogen policies and relatively low financing costs.
The consortium includes the Global Maritime Forum, RMI, HIF Global, Fuella, NYK Line, Höegh Autoliners and Wallenius Wilhelmsen, along with the ports at both ends of the proposed corridor.
A feasibility analysis for the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
