CMA CGM and DSV Partner on Low-Carbon Shipping
Transport and logistics firm DSV will use container line CMA CGM’s low-carbon shipping solution to target a reduction of 12,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions over two years.
The agreement will use second-generation UCOME-based biofuels and bio-LNG to reduce emissions from ocean freight shipments, CMA CGM said in a press release on October 7.
CMA CGM’s ACT+ low-carbon shipping solution allows customers to reduce their shipments’ well-to-wake CO2 emissions by 10%, 25%, 50% or up to 83% compared with conventional marine fuel use.
The programme uses a mass-balance approach, under which low-carbon fuel quantities and their associated emissions benefits are tracked and allocated to specific shipments.
This allows customers to benefit from the use of lower-carbon fuels across CMA CGM’s services without requiring the fuel to be physically supplied to the vessel carrying their cargo.
Customers receive an official declaration, independently verified by a third party, confirming the emissions reductions associated with their shipments.
The programme also offers carbon offsetting for residual emissions.
The partnership supports DSV’s target of net-zero emissions across its operations and value chain by 2050.
CMA CGM also aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
