Hoegh Autoliners Orders Six More LNG Dual-Fuel Vessels
Norway-based Hoegh Autoliners has signed a contract for six LNG dual-fuel pure car and truck carriers from China.
The company signed the shipbuilding contract with China Merchants Group in Naples this week, the firm said in a LinkedIn post yesterday.
The vessels will be built by China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) and delivered between 2029 and 2031.
The dual-fuel LNG vessels will be capable of carrying up to 9,100 cars and could reduce carbon emissions per transported car by up to 58% compared with conventional PCTCs, Hoegh Autoliners said.
The newbuilds part of the Aurora Class programme will also have DNV ammonia-ready and methanol-ready notations.
This means that they are suitable for conversion to methanol or ammonia propulsion in the future.
The Aurora Class programme could eventually grow to 26 vessels, with an option for four additional ships and construction slots reserved for another four.
The company currently operates a fleet of around 40 pure car and truck carriers.
