Lloyd's Register (LR) has announced that, following its acquisition of Guardian Marine Testing Ltd (GMT) earlier this year, it has formed a new fuel testing company known as Lloyd's Register GMT Ltd (LR GMT).

"The acquisition and integration of the two businesses to form Lloyd's Register GMT Ltd provides enhanced service levels and real advantages to existing customers of Lloyd’s Register’s Fuel Oil Bunkering Analysis and Advisory Service (FOBAS) and Guardian Marine Testing," Gwynne Lewis, Global Head of Marine Consulting at LR.

LR said it acquired the remaining 80 percent share of the UK based GMT in March this year.

Prior to LR's acquisition of the company, GMT is reported to have had about 80 percent of its workload dedicated to completing testing for LR.

"Bringing together Guardian Marine Testing’s efficient operation with Lloyd’s Register’s leading technical expertise will enable us to expand our fuel testing business, and assist our clients further with their challenges," said Andrew Shaw, Managing Director at LR GMT.

"As one combined team I look forward to us working together to deliver the world’s best marine testing service."

LR says that the new entity will deliver "fast and accurate" marine fuel testing, an advanced sample collection and tracking service, a web portal for customers, easy to read reporting, and "highly skilled" fuel consultants, as well as fuel quality alerts and industry updates.

In April, LR released a new fuel management toolkit to help owners and operators better manage factors such as bunker quality and energy consumption.
