  • BetterSea launches Stylianos, an AI agent working inside its compliance platform
  • Covers FuelEU Maritime, EU ETS, UK ETS, and the Djibouti and Gabon carbon taxes
  • Agent analyses exposure and sources quotations but does not execute without user approval
  • Available now at no additional cost to platform users

Maritime compliance platform BetterSea today announced the launch of Stylianos, an AI agent designed to take on the analytical legwork of shipping's growing emissions compliance burden.

Rather than operating as a standalone chatbot, the agent works with the data inside BetterSea's platform, taking users from a compliance question to a prepared action, the company says.

Users can ask it to estimate compliance costs for a vessel or voyage scenario across FuelEU Maritime, the EU ETS, the UK ETS, and the Djibouti and Gabon carbon taxes, compare compliance pathways, and identify optimal pool compositions.

The agent can also source quotations for FuelEU surplus and ETS transactions through the firm's marketplace, and run compliance checks including counterparty risk assessment.

BetterSea says the system is built on a human-in-the-loop model: it can analyse, recommend, prepare, and source, but does not execute transactions without user review and approval.

The company adds that its AI models are not trained on customer data, keeping vessel, operational, and commercial information confidential.

"Shipping companies are dealing with more compliance data, more regulations, and more execution steps than ever before, on top of their day-to-day workload," Maximilian Schroer, co-CEO of BetterSea, said in a statement announcing the launch.

"We want users to be able to ask a straightforward question about a vessel or voyage and in minutes move from understanding their exposure to evaluating the best strategy and preparing execution within the same platform."

"The important distinction for us is that AI supports decision-making without removing control from the user," said Dr Gordana Ilic, the firm's other co-CEO.

"This gives teams the speed of AI while preserving the oversight required for executing compliance."

Stylianos is available now through the BetterSea platform at no additional cost to users.
