Nordic biomethane producer St1 Biokraft is supplying bio-LNG to Destination Gotland ferries during the summer season and Almedalen Week 2026.

The fuel volume is enough for around 30 one-way ferry crossings between Visby and Nynashamn, with Swedish-produced biogas accounting for about 10 of those voyages.

Almedalen Week, held in Visby from June 22-26, is Sweden's largest annual political and societal forum and a peak travel period for Gotland ferry services.

“We are pleased to begin this new collaboration with Destination Gotland, and it is particularly positive that part of the volume is Swedish-produced,” Sohrab Moshiri, Head of Sales at St1 Biokraft, said.

Destination Gotland said the bio-LNG purchase supports its efforts to reduce emissions while increasing the use of locally produced renewable fuel.

The fuel is being bunkered in Visby by LNG bunker firm Avenir. Bio-LNG is produced from organic waste and is used as a renewable alternative to conventional marine fuels.
