Fuel Management System Gets EU Patent
The European Union (EU) has granted patent protection to a marine fuel management system made by U.S.-based Nautical Control Solutions LP (NCS), the company announced in an emailed press release.
The FuelTrax Marine Fuel Management system tracks fuel flow, fuel burn rates, and other data and can help make real-time throttle adjustments to reduce fuel use, while also working with the short-side FuelNet web-based reporting tool to improve vessel management.
The company said the system won its first patent approval in the U.S. in 2006, and Canada granted it a patent last year.
The new patent from the European Patent Office (EPO) covers the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, and Greece, bringing the total number of countries where the system is protected to 11.
"Under the EPO we selected the countries we believe will offer us the largest blanket of protection within the European community," said NCS CEO Anthony George.
"It is important to have these protections in place as we continue to invest in our product offerings and expand globally to serve a growing user community."
NCS announced last year that it had added a feature capable of detecting off-spec fuel to the FuelTrax product.
