Tanker Hit by Multiple Projectiles Off the Coast of Qatar
A tanker was struck by multiple projectiles about 51 nautical miles north of Madinat ash Shamal, Qatar yesterday, according to a British government agency monitoring maritime security in the region.
The incident was reported at 19:00 UTC, with casualties reported following the attack, UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said in a social media post today.
Commenting on the incident, Martin Kelly, head of advisory at EOS Risk Group, said: “For the first time since 9 September, Iran has struck a ship in the Gulf, away from the Strait of Hormuz.”
“Tonight's attack comes as Iran has increased the tempo of attacks against shipping since the end of September,” he said in a social media post.
UKMTO had reported another vessel attack incident in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday.
