Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) says it has appointed John Sanford as Technical Sales Manager for Safety covering the Americas.

Sanford previously worked for a marine safety provider in the Americas, in fleet planning for Holland America Line, and as a business development consultant for U.S. marine service companies.

"Getting the right people and competence in place is critical in the changing market place today," said Business Director Andrew Sheriff.

"Adding John to our team is part of our plans to further develop our safety offering across the region."

WSS, part of Norway-based Wilh. Wilhelmsen Holding ASA, said it has increased its sales of the Liferaft Exchange Programme in North and South America over the past year, and that it wants to built on those sales to increase its work in segments including cruise and offshore.

The Liferaft programme allows shipowners to rent liferafts from the company, exchanging them once a year, eliminating the need to have liferafts inspected and serviced annually.
