Japan's Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) Tuesday named current Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer Junichiro Ikeda as the company's new president.

Outgoing President Koichi Muto will move to become MOL's representative director and chairman.

In addition to having graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Tokyo, Ikeda has also been with the company for over three decades.

The company added that the appointment is subject to approval by the Board of Directors.

Early this year, MOL announced that it was moving into a "counteroffensive" year for 2015, having revealed plans to upgrade its fleet with 20,000 TEU boxships in a bid to become more cost-competitive.
