Eco Marine Power Wins Award From Oceans Group
Japanese ship builder Eco Marine Power (EMP) has received a Solutions Inspiring Action award for its fuel-saving EnergySail technology at the 2012 Savannah Ocean Exchange, the company announced.
The EnergySail was revealed last month and aims to reduce fuel use with rigid sails that contain solar panels, using both wind and solar power to help propel a vessel, keeping down fuel costs and reducing emissions.
EMP also used the event to unveil a coastguard, naval, and survey concept vessel using the EnergySail technology.
The first propulsion system to incorporate the EnergySail, the Aquarius MRE System, entered a testing phase early this year, the company said.
The Savannah Ocean Exchange, held in Savannah, Georgia in the U.S., brings together organizations from multiple disciplines to share ideas to help the world's oceans and coasts.
