Scorpio Bulkers Orders 15 More Vessels
Scorpio Bulkers Inc. (Scorpio Bulkers) has ordered 11 Ultramax dry bunk vessels and four Kamsarmax dry bulk vessels from five shipyards in Japan and China, the company announced today in an emailed press release.
The Ultramax vessels, ranging from 60,000 deadweight tonnes (dwt) to 64,000 dwt will come from Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding Co. Ltd, Imabari Shipbuildng Co. Ltd, Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co. Ltc, and Chengxi Shipyard Co. Ltd.
The Kamsarmax vessels, which will be between 81,000 dtw and 84,000 dwt, will be built by Tsuneishi Group (Zhoushan) Shipbuilding Inc. and Imabari Shipbuilding Co. Ltd.
Scheduled delivery dates for the ships run from the first quarter of 2015 to the third quarter of 2016.
Scorpio Bulkers, a sister company of Scorpio Tankers, started operations this summer, raising $250 million in gross proceeds through a private placement and announcing it had ordered between 11 and 14 fuel-efficient ships from Chinese shipyards.
The company's website now lists 26 vessels under construction.
