Peninsula Sees Growing Bio-LNG Availability at Key Bunkering Hubs
Global marine fuel supplier and trading firm Peninsula has highlighted growing bio-LNG availability as a factor supporting wider uptake among LNG-fuelled vessels.
The company sees bio-LNG as a compelling proposition to reduce emissions, it said in an article published on its website on Tuesday.
Bio-LNG produced from certified waste-based feedstocks can deliver lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions reductions of up to 90% compared with conventional marine fuels, according to Peninsula.
The fuel can be handled through existing LNG bunkering infrastructure and used in LNG dual-fuel engines without major vessel modifications, making it an immediately available lower-carbon option, the company said.
“As operators look to balance compliance, cost and operational performance, Bio-LNG offers a practical solution that can be integrated into existing LNG infrastructure today,” Cristina Danes, LNG Supply Trader at Peninsula, said.
“Increasing availability across key bunkering locations is helping turn decarbonisation ambitions into operational reality.”
Peninsula pointed to recent supply operations as evidence of the fuel’s expanding accessibility.
The company carried out its first bio-LNG delivery at the Port of Cadiz, supplying a Royal Caribbean Group cruise ship.
